Let us help you deliver the big news! A hot new trend is to let your baby shower cake reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl. A pink or blue cake is decorated on the outside gender-neutral; then, when the cake is cut, your family and friends will discover the secret! This can be done with cake pops too!
Icing: Buttercream vs. Fondant
Many people are indecisive about whether to cover their cake in buttercream or fondant. Fondant is mostly sugar, so it is edible; however, some people don't like the taste. We use fondant a lot in our designs for several reasons: it gives us a smooth surface, much like a canvas, for us to execute our designs on; it also acts as an airtight seal to keep the cake inside fresh and moist. We do not make our own fondant, but have had much success using Satin Ice rolled fondant, which is our brand of choice (for more info, you can visit them at http://satinice.com). We find it very easy to work with, and customers seem to like the taste. If you (or your guests) aren't "fond" of fondant, you can simply peel it off.
